Where Our Healing Begins

While reading my devotional this week, the topic was God’s love. As I reflected on those words, I realized how much my own life experiences have affected my ability at times to fully receive His love.

Because of the rejection I have experienced and the times I have felt invisible, it has sometimes been difficult for me to accept that an awesome, all-powerful God truly loves me just as I am. I have struggled to understand how the Creator of the universe could see me personally, know everything about me, and still choose to love me completely.

But ladies, this is the ground floor. This is where our journey of healing begins by accepting God’s love for us.

Before we can heal from rejection, we must begin believing that we are already accepted by the Heavenly Father. Before we can overcome feeling invisible, we must believe that He sees us. Before we can release the belief that we are unworthy, we must receive the truth that His love is not something we have to earn.

God loves us because love is who He is. Our healing begins when we stop resisting that truth, open our hearts, and allow ourselves to be loved by Him.

God’s love is the foundation of His relationship with us. Everything He does flows from who He is, and God is love.

His love is not merely an emotion or something He expresses when we have behaved well. It is active, intentional, sacrificial, and transformative. The greatest demonstration of His love was the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world so deeply that He gave His one and only Son so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. God did not simply say that He loved us, He demonstrated His love through what He was willing to give.

This shows us that love is not just something God does. Love flows from who He is. It is an expression of His character.

You Do Not Have to Earn His Love

It can be difficult for us to comprehend being completely loved by an all-powerful God. As human beings, we often believe that love must be earned. We think we must behave a certain way, say the right things, meet certain expectations, or become a better version of ourselves before we are worthy of being loved.

Some of us learned this through painful experiences. Love may have been offered to us conditionally. We may have received affection when we pleased someone and rejection when we disappointed them. Perhaps we were made to feel that we had to prove our worth, compete for attention, or work to keep someone from leaving.

Over time, we may begin to believe that God loves us the same way people have loved us. But He does not. God’s love is not a reward for perfect behavior. You cannot earn it, and you do not have to perform to keep it. God’s love begins with Him, not with you.

Romans 5:8 says that God demonstrated His love for us while we were still sinners. Jesus did not wait for us to become perfect, healed, obedient, or worthy before giving His life for us. He came for us while we were broken, lost, and in need of a Savior.

God loved you before you knew how to love Him back. (Read that again! Let that sink in your heart.)

His Love Is Steady and Consistent

Human love can sometimes be inconsistent. People may change their minds, withdraw their affection, break their promises, or leave us questioning where we stand.

God’s love is different.

Psalm 136:1 declares:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.” (NIV)

His love does not stop when you make a mistake. It does not disappear during your difficult seasons. It does not weaken when you feel afraid, discouraged, confused, or unworthy. God’s love for you remains.

When others fail to see you, He sees you. When others misunderstand you, He knows your heart. When others reject you, He still calls you chosen.
When you struggle to love yourself, He continues to love you completely.

You may not always feel His love, but your feelings do not determine the truth of His character. His love is present even in the seasons when He seems quiet. It is working in the places you cannot yet see. (Memorize this)

His Love Transforms Us

God’s love does not merely comfort us, it changes us.

When we truly receive His love, we no longer have to live as though we are begging to be chosen. We do not have to chase approval, remain in unhealthy relationships, or shrink ourselves to make other people comfortable.

His love teaches us that we already belong to Him. The more secure we become in the Father’s love, the less power rejection has over our identity. His love begins healing the wounded places that told us we were unwanted, invisible, forgotten, or not enough.

We begin to see ourselves through His eyes. We are His daughters. We are chosen. We are known. We are valuable. We are deeply loved.

God’s love also calls us to reflect and extend that love to others. First John 4:19 reminds us that we are able to love because He loved us first. We do not love others from an empty heart. We love from the overflow of what we have received from the Heavenly Father.

His love makes us more compassionate, forgiving, patient, and gracious. It empowers us to extend love without losing ourselves and to establish healthy boundaries without becoming bitter.

Receive His Love Today

Maybe you have spent much of your life trying to earn love. Maybe you have believed that if you were prettier, stronger, quieter, more successful, more helpful, or more spiritual, someone would finally choose you.

But the Father is inviting you to stop striving and simply receive.

You do not have to convince God to love you or compete for His attention. And you do not have to perform for His acceptance.

He already sees you, knows you, chose you and He already loves you. Let His love reach the places in your heart that rejection wounded. Let it challenge every lie that rejection told you that you were too much, not enough, or difficult to love.

God’s love for you is not based on what you have done. It flows from who He is. And His love endures forever. So, start today by accepting God’s love for you, not because you have earned it, but simply because you are His daughter. You belong to Him, and you are deeply loved.

A Prayer to Receive the Father’s Love

Abba Father, thank You for loving me before I ever knew how to love You. Forgive me for believing that I must earn Your love through my behavior, accomplishments, or perfection.

Help me receive the love You have already given so freely through Jesus Christ. Heal the places in my heart that have been wounded by rejection, abandonment, disappointment, and conditional love.

Teach me to see myself through Your eyes. Remind me that I am Your daughter seen, chosen, known, and deeply loved. Allow Your love to transform my heart and flow through me so that I may reflect and extend it to others.

Today, I choose to rest in the truth that Your love for me is faithful, unconditional, and everlasting.
