“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
First and foremost, YOU are God’s daughter! First John 3:1 clearly says so!
Before you identify yourself by your relationship status, your career, your accomplishments, your mistakes, your past, or even the roles you carry for others, remember this foundational truth:
You are a daughter of God.
There is something powerful about knowing who you belong to.
Life has a way of placing labels on us. Rejection may whisper, “You weren’t wanted.” Abandonment may tell you, “You weren’t worth staying for.” Disappointment may cause you to wonder, “What is wrong with me?” And years of being overlooked can make you question whether anyone truly sees you.
But none of those voices have the authority to define you. Your Heavenly Father does. And He calls you His child.
First John 3:1 doesn’t simply say that God tolerates us or allows us to belong to Him. It tells us to see what great love the Father has lavished on us!
Lavished.
That means His love is not scarce. You do not have to compete for it, perform for it, earn it, or convince Him to give it to you. You are already loved by your Heavenly Father.
Being God’s daughter means your identity is not determined by who chose you, or who didn’t.
It is not determined by the person who walked away nor is it determined by the relationship that failed. It is not determined by the people who overlooked you, misunderstood you, rejected you, or failed to recognize your value.
Before any of those experiences became part of your story, you belonged to God.
Sis, when you truly begin to understand that you are God’s daughter, something begins to change inside of you. You stop begging people to give you an identity your Heavenly Father has already given you. You stop allowing rejection to convince you that you are unworthy of love. And you begin looking at yourself through the eyes of the One who created you.
Today, look in the mirror and remind yourself:
I am God’s daughter.
I am deeply loved by my Heavenly Father.
I belong to Him.
I do not have to earn His love.
Rejection does not define me.
My past does not define me.
I am who my Heavenly Father says I am because God is not a man that He should lie! Numbers 23:19
And because you are His daughter, you never have to wonder whether you matter. You most certainly do!
You are loved. You are His. And you are SEEN by the Heavenly Father.
